To really perfect your espresso extractions, you need a properly distributed and tamped coffee puck. Good tamping technique can help with the latter, but distribution is a bigger challenge, as coffee grounds can come out of most espresso grinders in clumps. Because of this, there is an increasing focus on distribution in specialty cafes, and you may see many of the best baristas using a coffee distributor before tamping.

This Coffee Sensor leveler with adjustable base is specially made for the La Pavoni post Millennium lever machines.  The diameter of the base is precisely made with a 51.5mm or 49.5mm diameter so it will tightly fit in your portafilter basket.  The handle is made of real walnut wood with an aluminum interior and stainless steel base.  Height is adjustable with a simple turn of the handle and counter turn of the adjusting handle.

      Excellent product

      Very nicely made, and certainly works well for getting a nice even accurate level for tamping. Is it necessary...well if like channeling then no... but It does work and it is really pleasurable and easy to use. Personally I would buy a second one and set one for my 9g and one for my 14-16g baskets. It is adjustable, yes, but quality and function out weigh price by a lungo.

      Full disclosure: I thought this would be an un-necessary addition, but I immediately came to love it as part of the ritual of prepping a shot. It makes de-clumping and levelling the dose smooth (and classy!) Solid and well made.
