How the Breville Oracle Jet Espresso Machine Transforms Mornings — Written by an Espresso Nerd

If anyone knows anything about me, Samantha, the co-owner of Coffee Addicts, they probably know how picky I am about my coffee. I only drink ONE per day (crazy I know…) and it has to be perfect. If I don’t love it, I will literally toss it and skip my coffee.

Over the years I have used all the machines from commercial La Marzoccos to the Rancilio Silvia. Most recently my morning set up at home was an ECM mechanica slim paired with a DF64 (with HU SSPs) and it was perfect. Maybe overkill for one coffee but it made great coffee! But as a working mom of 3 that is always struggling with counter space and time in the mornings, I started to think about how I could make my mornings easier.

After doing a demo on the new Oracle Jet, I started to think….maybe this is what my mornings need?

Side bar – a little Coffee Addicts confession: we have always had the business approach of “your coffee set up is your own and we accept you whether you own a Breville or a Rocket” and while is true, there has been a part of me that still believed that Breville was less of an espresso machine than the “real one’s” Not something I would ever admit but when I thought I’d test the Oracle Jet, my ego was not impressed with the idea…but I put ego aside and packed up my ECM.
After 2 weeks I have got a whole new perspective on Breville and what it means to have a “solution focused” appliance in my kitchen. Here is what I think and who I think this machine serves best.

Yes, sure, it’s fully automatic in many ways, but it doesn't totally strip away the joy of creating that perfect shot either. For example, it handles complex steps like grinding, dosing, and tamping with precision, so you don’t have to, (which is especially nice for beginners!) allowing you to save time while still delivering a quality espresso shot. It even takes care of milk frothing, something that usually requires skill and experience to perfect. Personally, I am a very experienced Barista and I really don’t need these features but you know what? It's kind of nice not to worry about it when you’re busy in the morning…#sorrynotsorry

But on the other hand, for the espresso nerds like me, it offers customizable settings. You can still tweak the grind size, water temperature, and shot duration to match your personal preferences.

Favourite features that I didn’t expect

• Front water loading. Yes. You read that. You can fill the water from the front of the machine. It’s revolutionary. Why has no one thought of this before to be honest.
• Heats up in 5 seconds. You can literally make coffee as soon as you turn it on.
• You can walk away. The grinding, the espresso and the steaming does its own thing so you can start and it’s no big deal if your toddler just made a huge mess and you have to leave in a panic.
• It’s so easy….As a mom, my coffee always came last, so when mornings were too chaotic, it just wouldn’t happen. Having coffee that essentially makes itself, means I never sacrifice my happiness.
• But not having to sacrifice quality. It doesn’t have the “automatic machine, my coffee was made without love and has no soul” vibe at all. (You know what I’m talking about)
• Your kid can probably learn how to make you coffee. It’s that user friendly.

  Oat, almond and soy steaming functions. They work. For real. Its hard to teach someone how to steam alternative milks! With these feature, my kids can whip up an almond milk flat white and it will actually have microfoam

My new morning lifesaver

There is no such thing as “the best espresso machine” there is only the best espresso machine for you and that might not even be the same year to year. Right now, the Oracle Jet is perfect for my life and my busy household. Does it make me less legit as a coffee addict? Of course it doesn’t!
