When I stepped into the coffee industry 20 years ago, I learned the basics of being a barista but it was very clear that as a young woman in coffee, I would never know it all or be worthy of mingling with the best. Coffee, a bit of an old boys club, a bit technical enough that a woman could never understand an elite at the top. The memo I got was; Coffee isn't supposed to be fun, it is very very serious. I just accepted it....and it took a long time for me to build a sense of confidence making coffee.
Services techs told me I couldn't just buy and change a head gasket, it was too complicated for a girl.
High end coffee shops would talk down to me when I asked about a coffee origin.
I wasn't a real coffee lover if I chose decaf while pregnant....

One day, I was laying in bed, frustrated by my chosen industry, feeling powerless sparked a sense of rage in me. The empowering kind of rage.
If I am frustrated, other people must also be frustrated!
If I want to find a fun and safe space for coffee, then maybe I should BE IT?!
In that moment Coffee Addicts was born. Not a business but a movement.
Of course things have evolved in the last 20 years but that exclusiveness of the coffee industry still lingers and we are just so not having anymore.
We have been able to grow this vision into a full blown business that employs over a dozen coffee lovers, we have a welcoming showroom in SE Calgary that is attached to our warehouse that ships out coffee goods daily.
We created Coffee Addicts to make a safe place for ALL coffee lovers, not just the elite.
We pride ourselves on being education forward.
We want to help anyone interested in coffee, from the super basics to the advanced skill, we are ready to meet you where you are. No Matter where that is.
