What to get the coffee fiend in your life?
Often around this time of year folks come in looking for small bits and pieces to pad out the good ol’ stocking of a friend or loved one. When someone is enough into coffee that they send you here, though (and yes that does happen actually quite a bit), what do you even get them? They already have everything!
Here are a few of my suggestions for items they’ll still exclaim over, in that sort of “wow, I didn’t even think of that!” kinda way =)
For the espresso-ists
Group gasket removal awl and new gasket ($15 + $8+)
This is probably best for a close family member or friend, as you have to know what machine they have to be able to get the correct group head gasket! We are all a bit guilty of not keeping up on machine maintenance though, and this is one of the easiest swaps for the home barista to make to help keep things running smoothly. Most E61 group heads will accept a gasket like this, any Gaggia classic will take this, and any Rancilio Silvia or X Pro will take this one here.
Brewista smart scale III ($80)
I cannot tell you how obsessed I am with this scale. For starters, it has Real Physical Buttons, which is a huge plus for me as I, especially when pre-coffee sleepy, cannot always tell if I've appropriately triggered button-less scales. The big feature for this scale though is the added removable silicone stand to help you weigh in your portafilter while keeping the scale small enough to fit under cups when it’s time to pull the shot. Unmissable as far as scale options go!
Cleaning packs (Renew $2.50, Espresso Clean $2)
Espresso machines only last if we keep them up! After a while, we start to lose the bright sparkly joy of the new espresso machine as oils build up and affect taste, but don’t fear, a good clean will have your friend or loved one back to a fresh blank clean state.
For the filter crew
Third Wave Water ($22)
Water is quite literally the main ingredient in coffee by volume. If you know someone who’s getting deep into those more intense light roasts or specialty coffees, help them bring out the best in the bean by bringing the other ingredient - water - up to the same level as their coffee. Simply mix with distilled water for a perfect mineral blend to highlight juicy, fruity coffee notes.
Kalita flat bottom ($54)
If your pour over fiend is used to a V60, see how they fair with a slightly different style! This flat bottomed ceramic Kalita is every bit as beautiful as the Hario, but pours slightly differently as the flat bottom style and three drip holes help for a very even extraction even if you’re not pouring perfectly. Plus, now they can make 2 cups of coffee at once, one for each of you =)
Hario Mini Slim ($49)
If your pour over person is just starting up, the Hario Mini Slim is the first hand grinder of many long, fulfilling coffee relationships. It’s simple, it’s affordable, and it’s reasonably effective as an intro grinder for hand grinding. Being able to fresh grind your own coffee at home is a wildly valuable step, and significantly improves the coffee experience for many.
For the coffee generalists
Ethoz double walled cups ($27)
A beautiful clear set of cups in an attractive box, there’s not too much to say about these, and to me at least that simplicity is the charm.
Ecoffee cup (from $15)
One of Coffee Addicts first products was the Ecoffee cup, and we still carry an incredible range of patterns and sizes for these attractive, lightweight bamboo travel cups. With silicone no-drip lids and silicone heat bands, these are a fantastic addition to any coffee or tea overs daily commute, and will always fit the car cup holder.
Coffee Mystery Box ($60)
Not sure what they want? Only sure that they like to drink coffee? This could be a great situation! The Mystery Box is a set of 3 different bags of coffee, put together by our packing team here at Coffee Addicts. Choose what level of coffee your receiver enjoys, whether they’re into weird and wild pour overs, or calm and traditional flavours, or maybe just a little interesting but nothing too out there, we got you covered! Get as a one time gift, or save 10% and get a recurring subscription set up at an interval that works for you!
Cheers and Happy Holidays everyone!
