Backflushing Without the Powder — One Tablet, One Clean
The Cafetto Espresso Clean® Tablet is the pre-formed version of the Espresso Clean® formula — the same NSF P152 certified backflush cleaner used by professional espresso machines worldwide, in a solid tablet format that eliminates powder handling entirely. One tablet goes directly into the blind filter basket, dissolves in the first few seconds of the backflush cycle, and cleans the group head, delivery pathway, and portafilter basket without measuring, without sachets, and without the risk of under or over-dosing. Designed for traditional espresso machines with a 3-way solenoid valve — the same machines that use Espresso Clean® powder or sachets — in a 150-tablet jar suited to high-frequency cleaning or café environments.
NSF P152 Certified — Same Guarantee as the Full Range
Cafetto Espresso Clean® Tablets carry the same NSF P152 certification as the powder and sachet formats: independently verified to not taint the taste or aroma of subsequent coffee, and not to cause corrosion in espresso machine components. The tablet dissolves rapidly once the backflush cycle begins, producing the same free-rinsing, residue-free clean as the powder formulation. For group head backflushing, use one tablet per group per session for daily cleaning. For portafilter handle and basket soaking, dissolve two tablets in 500ml of hot water from the machine's boiler and soak for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly under running hot water.
Backflush Procedure and Choosing Between Tablet, Sachet, and Powder
For group head backflushing: replace the coffee filter with a blind filter, place one Espresso Clean® tablet in the group handle, and insert as normal. Run the cycle for 10 seconds, stop for 10 seconds, and repeat for a total of seven on/off cycles — one more cycle than the sachet format, accounting for the slightly different dissolution rate of the tablet form. Re-insert the blind filter and run 10 short rinse cycles (5 seconds on, 2 seconds off), then brew and discard one espresso to re-season the group head. The tablet format is the most convenient for café and multi-group environments where speed and consistency matter more than per-dose cost. The sachet (5g, $2.00) is better suited to occasional home use; the powder is the most economical format for high-volume users who are comfortable with measuring. For the organic-certified equivalent, the Cafetto EVO® and TEVO Maxi tablets are also available at Coffee Addicts.
