Coffee in the Wild: Meet Kenya

Welcome to Coffee in the Wild, where we ask our team how they actually make, drink, and enjoy coffee in real life.

First up: Kenya — lifelong coffee lover, pour-over fan, and someone who fully believes coffee gear can be both functional and cute.

Are you a coffee addict?

“Yes! Absolutely,” Kenya says. “I’m a lifetime lover of all things coffee — born into it!”

How do you make coffee day to day?

Most days, Kenya keeps things simple with a pour-over.

“I usually do a nice little pour-over because it’s easy and you get some really tasty coffee,” she says. “Pour-overs are a really approachable way to get amazing flavour out of your coffee.”

Her setup includes a Timemore scale, a classic Hario V60, and a temperature-controlled gooseneck kettle.

“I have a classic Hario V60. It’s pink and it’s cute, so I like that,” she says. “And it’s ceramic because I like avoiding plastic in my setup.”

What kind of coffee do you like?

Kenya is not afraid of an adventurous cup.

“I really like funky, fruity coffees,” she says. “I love experimental coffee roasting techniques, so I like being adventurous and trying unique coffee options.”

Her coffee motto?

“If it’s weird, I’m all over it.”

What do you wish you knew earlier?

Before her V60 era, Kenya used a Chemex at home. But switching brewers helped her notice how much the filter can change the final cup.

“I used to use a Chemex, which has a much thicker filter, and that can trap a lot of the more delicate flavours,” she says. “Since switching to my V60, I get a wider flavour profile in the cup.”

So if you’re chasing more brightness, nuance, or complexity in your coffee, Kenya’s advice is simple: your brewer and filter really do matter.

How do you best like to drink your coffee?

Cuddled up on the couch with her dog in her lap.

Honestly, hard to improve on that.

Favourite café?

Kenya’s pick is the Simmons location of Phil & Sebastian.

“It’s really beautiful to sit in,” she says.

Dream setup?

Kenya’s dream coffee setup is very specific, very capable, and ideally very colourful.

On the list: an ECM Mechanika Max, a CF64 grinder, a Pesado Clump Crusher, a Milk pitcher, a Brewista III scale, and an Asso distribution tool.

And, of course, “all in fun colours.”

Kenya’s coffee personality

Kenya’s coffee style is curious, playful, and just the right amount of nerdy. She loves approachable gear, adventurous coffees, and anything that makes the daily ritual feel more fun.

Especially if it comes in pink.
