Welcome to Coffee Addicts
Summertime in the Coffee City
Inside our air conditioned showroom in Calgary Alberta, it’s almost so cold that hot coffee is a must. I get up in the morning and make sure to remember that I need a sweater of some kind or I’ll regret it, shivering in the service room. As soon as I step outside though, it’s akin to walking into a dry sauna the way the heat can really slap you in the face. How can you manage to prepare and drink hot coffee while actively melting?? May I humbly offer to you these cold coffee options to make at home: Espresso TonicA love/hate option, nearly entirely based on how you feel about tonic on its own. I love it, my husband… Not so much. How to:Pull a double shot of espressoFill a 12oz cup with ice and add about 150ml chilled tonic water(I like the Fever Tree minis, not a paid promotion, just a personal fav)Layer your double shot on top. The order of operations here matters, because if you pour the tonic water into the espresso, it will foam up significantly!Best with medium/lighter coffees like this Fable by AnecdoteAnecdote Coffee Roasters Fable Coffee Beans — Coffee AddictsCold Brew and Monin Fruit SyrupSimple and passive, this one does require the foresight to have made cold brew ahead of time. How to:Brew your cold brew (I really like the Bruer Cold Brew system, but the Hario Mizudashi Cold Brew Pot also makes a great brew)Pour over ice in a 12oz cupAdd ~½ oz of your Monin syrup of choice - I recommend the Ruby Grapefruit, but also really like the Blueberry, Raspberry, and Lemon. The point of the syrup, beyond sweetness, is a secondary layer of acidity that brings the coffee closer to a Lemonade-style territory.Bruer Cold Brew System — Coffee AddictsHario Mizudashi Cold Brew Pot — Coffee AddictsIced Americano SunriseI get quite a few raised eyebrows for this one! Better with a darker fuller roasts like , can cause metallic-y flavours to appear in lighter roasts. How to:Fill a 12oz cup with iceBrew a double shot of espresso right over that iceAdd a couple ounces of cold water(Works equally well to replace the above shot + water step with cold brew)Top with orange juice and enjoy! An ideal drink for a morning after Stampeding a little too hard, my Calgarians will know what that means!Try with This Coffee;Eclipse Coffee Roasters Vintage Blend Espresso Beans — Coffee AddictsHonorable Mention; Not An Iced Capp (for legal reasons)How to:To a blender, add;A double shot of espresso (about 1.5oz)1/2c milk of your choice (cow, almond, soy, etc)1c ice½ - 1 oz sweetener (vanilla or chocolate syrup is pretty classic here!
