The BWT bestsave scale protection pad provides ideal basic limescale protection for all coffee machines with a water tank. The scale protection pad is extremely simple to use.
Remove it from the packaging, briefly rinse it under running water, then put it on the base of the tank in the coffee machine. Ideally, water optimization takes place overnight so that there is sufficient water available to prepare coffee the following day. In the interest of hygiene, the bestsave limescale protection pad should not be left in the tank for longer than two months or until the capacity has been depleted, whichever comes first.
Features:
- Ideal throughflow through a special BWT filter fleece
- Professional BWT ion exchanger technology
- Integrated active carbon removes unwanted tastes and smells from water
- Hygiene protection against bacterial growth
- All materials used are food-safe

Tank-Based Scale Protection — No Installation Required
The BWT Bestsave is a scale protection pad designed to sit directly inside the water tank of any coffee machine — drip brewers, bean-to-cup machines, espresso machines with a refillable tank, and any other machine that draws water from an internal reservoir. There's no plumbing, no filter head, and no installation: remove it from the packaging, rinse it briefly under running water, and place it flat on the base of the tank. That's it. Once in place, BWT's ion exchanger technology reduces the calcium hardness of the water as it passes through the pad, preventing limescale from forming in the boiler, heating elements, and internal waterways. Integrated active carbon also removes unwanted tastes and odours from the water before it reaches the brew chamber — a meaningful addition for machines connected to municipal tap water that carries chlorine or other off-flavours.
Hygiene and Replacement Schedule
The Bestsave also provides hygiene protection against bacterial growth in the tank — a passive benefit that's easy to overlook but relevant in machines where water can sit for days between uses. For effective scale protection and hygiene, the pad should be replaced every two months or when its capacity is depleted, whichever comes first. Sam R, a verified Coffee Addicts customer from Calgary, reports no hard water buildup after two months of use — previously scale was forming within weeks of cleaning without protection. All materials are food-safe, and the special BWT filter fleece construction ensures good water flow through the pad without restricting the tank's supply to the machine. Available in sizes S and M; replace at the same interval regardless of size.
Where It Fits in the BWT Range at Coffee Addicts
The BWT Bestsave is the entry-level, no-plumbing scale protection option — straightforward to use and suited to any water-tank machine at $14. For machines connected directly to a water line (commercial espresso machines, high-volume brewers), or where water quality optimisation for extraction is the goal alongside scale protection, the BWT Bestmax Premium Water Filter and Softener is the plumbed-in alternative, featuring 5-stage filtration and BWT Magnesium Technology. Both are stocked at Coffee Addicts in the Water Filtration collection.
