Over time splits or small cracks may appear in your wooden handles, this is the normal ageing process that occurs in all wood. The cracks will not affect the integrity of the handles, as the inner thread is 12mm wide by 80mm long. Be careful around water, please do not soak or leave any of our wooden handles wet as it can cause splitting.
Same Machines, Thinner Fins — Here's Why That Matters The Pesado Stainless Steel Bottomless Hybrid Portafilter (5.0mm) fits the same machine family as the 6.0mm variant — La Marzocco, all E61 group head machines, ECM, Lelit, Profitec, Rancilio, Rocket Espresso, Sanremo, Synesso, Slayer, VBM, and more — but with 5.0mm fins rather than 6.0mm. Pesado developed this thinner variant specifically for two situations: machines with thicker group seals where the standard 6.0mm fins create a noticeably tighter lock than expected, and setups using the Pesado He[%] High Extraction Basket, whose 1.1mm wall thickness and perfectly cylindrical profile can reduce portafilter clearance to the point where the 6.0mm fins fit uncomfortably. If either of those describes your setup, the 5.0mm resolves the fit without any compromise on performance, compatibility, or the hybrid functionality of the head.
Naked by Default, Spouted in Seconds The 5.0mm portafilter is naked (bottomless) as standard, exposing the full basket base for unobstructed visual extraction diagnosis — channelling, uneven flow, and puck prep issues all reveal themselves immediately in a way a spouted portafilter conceals. The hybrid threading on the head base accepts the Pesado Stainless Steel Hybrid Portafilter Attachment (sold separately), converting from naked to spouted in seconds without tools. This is the same hybrid system shared across the full Pesado LM/E61 portafilter range — the only difference between the 5.0mm and 6.0mm is the fin thickness. Constructed entirely from 304 stainless steel, with an M12 female thread for the Pesado M12 x 80mm bolt and fully modular handle system.
Modular Handles, Your Finish, Basket Not Included The handle is fully modular: choose a black or white POM handle body (or Full POM, Raya sustainable birch, or Oak Look vacuum-dyed birch), then pair it with a metallic end piece in black, bronze, gold, or silver electro-polish, or a timber end piece in Iris or Riga vacuum-dyed birch. End pieces swap at any time via the Pesado M12 x 80mm bolt. The Oak Look handle is sustainable vacuum-dyed birch, wax-coated — small natural splits may develop over time without affecting structural integrity; avoid soaking or extended water exposure. Basket not included — pairs naturally with the Pesado He[%] High Extraction Basket (58mm) and the Pesado HD E61 or La Marzocco High Diffusion Shower Screen for a complete precision extraction setup on any E61 or LM machine.
