Pesado HD - High Diffusion EX54HD Shower Screen

The EX54HD is compatible with the Breville 54mm (Barista Express + Infuser Machines).  The 54HD is also available for all other 54mm Breville machines and the MVHD for the 58mm Breville machines.

Introducing the Pesado High Diffusion shower screen. Designed for precision and consistency, eliminating the main issues causing irregular extractions.

Uneven water distribution has always been an issue when trying to achieve consistent extractions, this can be caused by the irregular water flow path through mesh shower screens, smaller surface area coverage and uneven puck infusion. Utilizing 18 channels we can target the exact spots every extraction, resulting in consistent water flow between every shot.

Combined with the unique feature of the outer channels running all the way to the edge of the shower screen, controlling water flow to target the entire puck bed right to the basket edge, giving us complete control over our water diffusion every shot.

EX54 HD not compatible with Breville 54mm single baskets. Only recommended use with double baskets.

Seal Compatibility Notice:

When installing Pesado HD (High Diffusion) Shower Screen, you may notice that your portafilter feels slightly loose. Don’t worry, this is completely normal. The HD screen is specifically designed to work best when paired with the HE (High Extraction) baskets - for the best coffee experience.

If you're not using an HE basket and prefer your portafilter to lock in closer to the 6 o’clock position, here are a few easy solutions:

A. Use a shim behind the group seal.
You can purchase pre-made spacers or DIY your own using household paper materials, adjusting thickness as needed.

B. Try a thicker group seal.
Group seals are available in small size increments (typically 0.5mm or 1mm). 

C. Upgrade to a HE Basket
Pair your HD screen with Pesado HE basket for the perfect fit and performance.

 

Why the Barista Express and Infuser Need Their Own Screen The Breville Barista Express, Barista Express Impress, and Infuser share a group head design where the water entry point is built off-centre — the water doesn't arrive at the shower screen from directly above, but from a biased position to one side. Standard shower screens, including the regular 54HD, work around this to a degree, but can't fully correct for the directional imbalance at the source. The EX54HD set addresses this specifically: the included diffusion disc is placed under the shower screen to physically re-centre the water path first, then the 18-channel HD shower screen redistributes it evenly outward across the full puck bed. The result is an even extraction from edge to edge, correcting a structural flow issue rather than working around it.

18 Channels, Edge-to-Edge Coverage, Consistent Shot to Shot Once the diffusion disc has re-centred the water entry, the HD shower screen takes over with the same 18-channel precision system used across the full Pesado HD range. Fixed, machined channels replace the variable flow paths of mesh screens, delivering water to the same locations in the same pattern on every extraction. The outer channels run to the edge of the 58.35mm screen surface — significantly wider than the stock Breville screen — ensuring the full puck bed is saturated rather than leaving 10–15% of the outer perimeter under-extracted. The combination of disc and screen together eliminates both the side-biased path and the coverage gap in a single upgrade. Note: the EX54HD is compatible with double baskets only — not recommended for use with Breville 54mm single baskets.

What's Included, Which Machines Fit, and the Seal Note The EX54HD set includes one 18-channel HD shower screen and one EX54 diffusion disc. Your existing shower screen screw is used for installation. Compatible machines: Barista Express (BES870), Barista Express Impress (BES876, manual dose mode recommended), and The Infuser (BES840), plus Sage and Solis equivalents with the same group head design. For all other Breville 54mm machines — Bambino, Bambino Plus, Barista Pro, Barista Touch, Duo-Temp Pro — use the Pesado 54HD Shower Screen instead. Seal compatibility notice: the HD screen may cause your portafilter to lock in slightly looser than usual — this is normal and fully resolves when paired with the Pesado He[%] Breville 54mm High Extraction Basket. A thicker group seal or group head shim will also restore the standard lock position if not using an HE basket.
